Description
Symbology: The basket/vessel imagery used is a symbol-metaphor for our being, how we fill 'with meaning' (open, receptive, upright form) and empty, pour out (upside down image) our ''thoughtful'' thoughts in words and deeds! The colours used and 'x' shapes imply one's physical and spiritual 'connections' and 'relationships' as we keep transforming as humans 'being'. ........................................................................
I also relate the vessel images to the music symbol shapes of the 'U' and its inverted - 'upside down U' (which I cannot type literally). They relate to processes of how much we are open/receptive/for transcending our physical 'barriers' to beyond and closed/blocking out/used as a protective barrier/nurture. These two shapes in 'reflection' symbolize eg. duality, balancing opposites such as yin and yan and are a representation of one's life's work. .........................................................................................
This references also to my personal Website Logo - which includes a channel (acting like a birth canal) pouring out the contents onto the leaf carrier, a transporter for our dreams and intentions. ........................................................................................
Title - GIve and Recieve. ... It's a simple, yet complex message on many levels, to ponder upon for 'meaning' in relation to oneself and one's actions when relating to other human beings. (A Parable - to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson. I thought it was also very fitting for the Post Card exhibition concept (a fundraiser) and in recognizing the artists and their contribution!).
I hope it also allows for one to reflect on current values / actions in today's world! ... .......................................................................................
My memoirs: As a child I was (seemed always) told by my Mum (especially around Xmas time) that one must give in order to receive and one was not supposed to expect to receive 'anything' in return just because you gave. ...
A real paradox - it was very hard to understand as a 'naive' child who had 'so little' and who always wanted 'things'! And now, in today's society, when there is so much 'instant self-gratification, with an abundance of products for the 'instant' taking, the 'giving' of human kindness, connecting at 'grass roots' becomes, it seems, even more elusive while the 'getting' prospers ! ... ................................................................................................
I came across a quote from an artist's 'reflections & ponderings' on the www.arthive.com website: 'Rare are those who give for the sake of giving.'
