Description
'Curlew Chicks' by Clifford Madsen ~ Australian Aboriginal artist located in the tropical coast of Far North Queensland, Australia.
The artist's impression is of very young Bush Stone-Curlew offspring, nestled together in their nest on the ground, in an open field.
Acrylic on canvas. Size: 278 x 355 x16 mm (11 x 14 x 1/2 inches).
During the breeding season (AU Spring & Summer) of the Bush Stone-Curlew birds, they do not go unnoticed when you hear their eerie, high-pitched wailing at night.
If you are not familiar with them and want to learn more about them you can visit > https://www.birdlife.org.au/bird-profile/bush-stone-curlew.
They are intriguing and unique ground-dwelling birds.
Quote from the link ref. "Breeding - Bush Stone-Curlews have a remarkable courtship dance. Individuals stand with their wings outstretched, their tail upright and their neck stretched slightly forward. The birds will stamp their feet up and down, like a soldier marking time. This courtship ritual is repeated for an hour or more at a time and is accompanied by loud and constant calling. Eggs are laid in a shallow scrape in the ground and both adults share the incubation and care for the young."
